About Us
The Department of Pre-College and Community Outreach (Pre-college) at the UC San Diego, Division of Extended Studies is dedicated to expanding access to transformative educational experiences for students and communities. Rooted in the University of California’s mission of research, teaching, and public service, Pre-college designs innovative academic programs that inspire curiosity, cultivate academic confidence, and prepare learners for future success.
Pre-college serves students locally and globally through dynamic pre-college programs that introduce young scholars to university-level learning and emerging fields of study. Guided by the University’s maxim Fiat Lux (“let there be light”), we illuminate educational pathways from early academic exploration through the transition to higher education.
Our programs feature expert faculty, experienced educators, and industry professionals who provide rigorous, engaging learning experiences across a wide range of disciplines. In addition to direct instruction, we leverages digital platforms and community partnerships to extend access and impact.
Beyond traditional programming, the department collaborates with schools, districts, community organizations, and campus partners to develop custom-designed initiatives that meet evolving educational needs. Through these partnerships, Pre-college strengthens college readiness, broadens participation in higher education, and supports educational equity across diverse communities.
